Learning Goals: Improve our ability to describe pieces of art work.
Today I wanted to give you guys more practice on discussing the elements and principles of art. Each of us picked a famous piece of artwork and then used the following format to describe them,
Handout: Describing Pieces of Art
The chart on this handout can also be found in your text book (page 46) and an explanation of how to use it can be found on page 88. If you forget any of the definitions check page 26 or page 40.
The goal of this exercise is to be able to use our vocabular of elements and principles to describe artwork in detail. These will not be marked, but I will give you comments on your descriptions. This is an important step in the critical analysis process. We must first be able to describe art before we can interpret it and eventually to evaluate it.
Homework: Complete your perspective drawings! They are still due on Friday.
